Preston Bullnose Plane 1366
This small three inch bullnose rabbet plane is fitted with a Rosewood wedge and a
3/8 inch wide Edward Preston cutter.
The Edward Preston number 1366 is another classic plane which has been replicated
since it was first introduced in the early 1900's.
Judging by the quantity of these planes which have appeared during the last ten years,
I think it would be safe to say the no. 1366 plane must have been quite a popular
style of plane when Preston were making these.
This model of plane was later replicated in the form of the Record 1366 bullnose
rabbet plane for a short period, 1935-1943. The Preston 1366 is succeeded today
by the Clifton number 400 plane, this well produced modern version has replicated
the detailing including the Preston cherry symbol.
Plane Use
The Preston 1366 plane is used for small awkward jobs which arise during cabinet making and similar work.
