Edward Preston Shoulder Plane 1367
The number 1367 Edward Preston shoulder rebate plane is another of the inconic
Preston planes with decorative detailing on the sides of the plane incorporating
the EP two cherries Edward Preston logo.
This plane used a Rosewood wedge for holding the blade in position.
This design bridged the gap between the traditionalist who used wooden wedged planes,
and
Edward Preston's ultra modern 1368 shoulder plane with its shaped lever cap
with securing screw.
This plane was priced in trade catalogues at the same price as the 1368 shoulder
plane showing this was not intended as a cheaper model, it was purely intended to
cater for those who liked securing the blade with the use of a wedge.
At, at-least half the price, the 1367 plane was also intended as a cheaper version
to the Preston dovetail shoulder plane range and the rival dovetail shoulder planes
made by makers such as Norris.
From what I have observed, the 1367 planes appear more often than the Edward Preston
dovetail shoulder planes however less often than the 1368 shoulder planes. There
is certainly not a great abundance of these planes, especially in very good condition.
This shoulder plane was Nickel plated which due to their age often means you find
these planes with some loss of plating.
For me, this is the most aesthetically pleasing design of all of the Edward
Preston plane designs.
Plane Use
The Preston 1367 shoulder plane is primarily used for fine and accurate work on shoulders.

What To Watch Out For
Chips and nibbles around the mouth, replacement or damaged wedges, replacement plane blades or little original blade remaining seem to be quite common problems with these planes.
